In the United States, women comprise nearly 50% of the workforce; however they only hold 11% of the Fortune 1000 corporate board seats.
Most people today have no knowledge about the makeup of corporate boards—not even the companies they invest in or where they work. These stakeholders would be surprised to realize how little diversity of thought and experience exists in the corporate boardrooms and executive suites of American businesses. 2020 Women on Boards wants to change this.
These companies have ZERO women on their boards:
- Urban Outfitters
- Steve Madden
- The Cheesecake Factory
These companies are above average with OVER 20% women on their boards:
- Wal-Mart
- Sonesta International Hotels
- DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse

Wal Mart does not hire women for positions on the board. Why are you lying to the public? The discriminate against women in that company in every way. The men lie, cheat, and steal to make the company what it is. I worked there for over a decade. I was lucky they didn't rob me blind. The company is worth billions and they steal from their employees! They stole from me and conspired to steal from me for years, and then accused me of stealing from them. I reported them to the FBI and presented them with proof. When is this company going to be stopped from ruining America?
If women ruled the world, there would be no wars.
Gender shouldn't matter. Talent is important. BUT if all things were equal then we wouldn't have to choose gender versus talent because those in a position of power suddenly might have a eureka moment and realize that with two sides of the 'coin' the company can only be a winner.
I find it rather interesting to read that one of the most inventive companies in the US has not got a female on its board.
If you want women to be part of your audience, then they should also be a part of the decision making process. After all, they know what other women want.
The world does not revolve around the male decision, women form a very important part of society, decision making, buying power on and on. Open your eyes, bring in talented woman, not just talented men!
Hi, anonymous! We're not lying to the public. There really are women on Walmart's board. See for yourself here: http://investors.walmartstores.com/phoenix.zhtml?…
It's time to take back America and stop shopping anywhere that doesn't have women on their Board of Directors. Write the companies and tell them so. I have also stopped buying any imported products. If it's not USA made, it can sit on the shelf and rot. Until this country reaches full employment, they will not get a dollar from me to import anything. This includes clothing, housewares, tools appliances, electronics, sporting goods car accessories baby items etc.Every one I know is doing the same thing. The corporations that don't make the change are going to be left in the dust.
I would add that we should stop supporting (with our dollars) ANY company/corporation that so fully exploits local and foreign workers to the extent that the huge corporation of Walmart does. (See the docu "Walmart: the High Cost of Low Prices" for even more information than you already had. It's a 'must see'.) The reputation and credibility of selfish corporations abroad does reflect on all Americans who support them; I feel I need to apologize when I travel for our well-earned label of 'ugly American'.
